Get ready to get crafty and collage your crew, your cousin, your Chihuahua! Here’s what you need and a super simple tutorial to the cutest portraits.
Step 1: Paper
For materials, you need paper—and lots of it. A good variety of colored construction paper is necessary to add dimension (you’ll layer on different pieces like for the nose and eyelids). You can also use funky, bright colors like pink or blue to mimic eyeshadow. (Pro tip: It’s also helpful to have pre-cut pieces of paper for mouths, eyes and ears.)
You also don’t have to use just construction paper. Feel free to get creative using magazines or even newspaper.
Step 2: Scissors
Once you’ve gathered your paper, you’ll need to map out where each piece is going. This will help make the gluing process go easier so you don’t have to stress about making a mistake later on. (This is where that pre-cut paper will come in handy.)
Take your time cutting each piece and make sure to hold onto any leftovers you have. These scraps could be used for eyelashes, pupil shapes, hair or accessories!

Step 3: Glue
After mapping out your collage, you’re ready to glue it down. We recommend sticks for an easy application, though liquid glue works too—as long as you don’t use too much. This may be the last step, but you can always add stickers, glitter or anything else that will give it a li’l pizazz.
These paper crafts are a great way to reconnect with creativity and the nostalgia of activities from childhood. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect, that’s part of the fun. Make a mess and get creative!
