That particular week has arrived once again—and your period is causing you aches, bloating and pain. This is one of the unavoidable experiences that every girl has to go through. So good thing we have some simple tricks that will allow you to feel relief (and not like you have a storm cloud hovering over you all week).
Heating pads
You know your period has arrived when those pesky cramps hit, and your lower belly feels like a construction zone. Grab your treasured heating pad (find our fave here!) and place it on your tummy. The warmth from the pad will help boost blood flow and relax your muscles, making you feel better. Apply heat for 15 to 20 minutes until those cramps melt away.
Tea
Tea is a girl’s best friend, especially when our cycle is not being kind to us. Boil a cup of spearmint or raspberry leaf tea. This delicious and effective remedy will target your menstrual pains because raspberry leaf tea is rich in antioxidants and minerals, which soothe your uterine lining, leaving you feeling nourished and glowing.
Yoga and exercise
Let’s be honest: Exercising is most likely not on your to-do list when Flo is in town. However, practicing yoga (we love our warrior positions or child poses!) will allow your body to release endorphins, which help soothe cramps, boost your mood and perk up any dreary day.
Essential oils
Aromatherapy is another method you can use throughout your cycle to reduce discomfort. It has been shown to relieve menstrual pain and lower stress. Take a couple of drops of essential oils and add them to a diffuser, then take a few deep breaths. You can also rub some lavender or rose drops into your skin by your abdominal area for additional cramp relief.
Anti-inflammatory foods
While sugary snacks may be at the top of your period cravings list, they won’t do much for discomfort. Anti-inflammatory bites will allow your body to feel better and reduce menstrual pains. Finding quick and healthy meals like nuts, pumpkin seeds, fruits, or vegetables will help you feel your best while giving you lasting energy.
